A new addition to the fleet is a 2016 Scania G250 18 tonne curtain sider with a tail lift. This brand new vehicle incorporates the latest safety and emission technology. The vehicle meets the Euro VI emission standard and has Scania LDW (lane departure warning) which is a safety system that has been specially developed to take into account driver behaviour as well as adverse weather conditions. This clever system warns the driver if the vehicle unintentionally crosses lane markings on the road. The vehicle is also fitted with AEB (Advanced Emergency Braking) which is an advanced emergency braking system which uses camera and radar. The function is automatically activated from a speed of 15 km/h.
When AEB detects a collision risk, the system is activated in 3 steps:
1. A red alert with an audible warning appears in the instrument cluster.
2. If the driver does not react and the risk remains, AEB brakes the vehicle gently.
3. If there is no further response from the driver, AEB will brake the vehicle with full force.
