Installation of Palmyra Arch in Trafalgar Square
On the 18th of April we were tasked by Williams and Hill Forwarding Ltd to provide a HIAB to construct a replica of the Palmyra Arch in Trafalgar Square. The arch was to be unveiled officially by Boris Johnson in a press launch event on Tuesday 19th April.
Using pictures of the destroyed Arch in Syria, the replica was laser cut from Egyptian marble using the latest 3D technology by the Institute of Digital Archaeology. This was a very important job for Hunts; timing, care and precision were needed to ensure this valuable artefact was installed safely, on-time and with no damage to the structure.
The build took around 5 hours with a barrage of press covering the event. We then deconstructed the arch two days later to be shipped to New York.
The arch will be touring cities around the world over the next few months. After the tour the arch will be sent to Syria to be permanently cited near the location of the original arch. The arch was well received by the public and press.
